Depth to solid rock, or “bedrock”, is an important consideration in many construction and engineering applications. In some geological settings, such as the image below (diabase bedrock), depth to bedrock is relatively uniform:
In other settings, depth to bedrock is variable, as in the image below (granite bedrock):
Using geophysics to map the depth profile of bedrock on a construction site can be far less costly than drilling a sufficient density of holes in order to get the same information.
